All about the feels!! Documentary style photos are documenting your family. They are super relaxed and bonus children and hubs l-o-v-e these type sessions!
I do help parents style these sessions. We chat clothing, alot. Client’s have access to our studio closet that includes dresses and some children’s clothing. When client’s schedule they get an in depth email with links to styling websites and Pinterest boards that help pull together clothing. Styling makes the difference between a good photo session and a WOW session!
I am getting a little ahead of myself. I wanted to share two different family sessions today. These families are connected in the way that they both have great taste in photographers (cheeky)…..JK! No, really the moms are sisters. Both moms wanted their children to look back at these images and remember a fun day and visually see how much they love each other! Documentary style photos are perfect for their visions.
Folly Beach Family Photos
When we were finishing up this session on Folly beach the oldest son told me he wanted to do another session the next day! Its the relaxed nature of the session. I mean take a look close at these images. The children are climbing trees, feeding birds, running and are not wearing shirts. It’s a fun evening at the beach instead of a sit still and smile portrait session 🙂
I cant wait to see them again! On to her sister’s family session. We actually shot the session below last year in the sunflower fields and it was just as hot as the beach!
Ok so yeah, ya got me…… I still do grab that “everyone look at the camera and smile shot.” But once we get that shot let the fun and sweat begin. This family is adorable and I photograph these girls ALOT!
I like to prep mom and parents before the photo session these are a few things I suggest to build a great foundation for the session. Make sure kids have had a good nap and meal before you arrive. Bring snacks, bug spray and water. Tell the kids we are gonna have a fun evening, cause we are! Oh and tell dad he doesn’t have to smile and look at me the entire time 🙂 Its weird..JK. If he can hang for about 45min I will have him eating wings and watching the game in no time.

Soooooo I say all that to say, if you love the wind in your hair, your littles do better in wide open spaces and your hubs loves to be casually dressed you may wanna consider booking a documentary style session. It is a great way to show case your family in a very natural way.
