Christmas Craft Painting the Door and Windows
One of the easiest Christmas crafts that makes children light up is painting the studio door and windows for the holidays. Santa comes each year for portraits with children and I like for the studio to feel festive. Children have come to expect the scenes on the door. How do I know you might wonder? Cause miss a year of doing it and they will let ya know they missed it!!
Turn on your favorite holiday music, grab a hot cider and let’s paint your door or window and surprise the kiddos.
Supplies you’ll need to paint your holiday scene:
Acrylic Paint (I am plain Jane and usually just use white. Maybe a little light brown if you want to get in depth and create some shadowing.)
Dish Soap (A few drops mixed in the paint helps in removing the paint after the season.)
Paint brushes, sponges (Any kind will do.)
Paper towel (Clean up)
and cup of water (To wash your brushes out.)
*Paint on the inside of your door and windows 🙂
Let’s get started.
Clean your window well and start painting. Its that simple! I do like to sketch my idea out on paper and then maybe paint a few strokes just to get the feel of my brushes. But thats it. Finding a few painting videos on YouTube is also a great way to get inspired.
Some great ideas would be incorporate your family as stick people, a large snow man, a manger scene with a star, a large bird house with winter snow and birds, let the children make reindeer with their hands, deer on hills…….
I would love to see your paintings. Please tag #niccolephotography on social media or share them below in the comments. Merry Christmas and I hope to see you and your littles In the new year for family photos.
